Located on N. St. Mary’s Street below Sunken Garden Theater, the Tuesday Musical Club, founded in 1901, is the oldest musical club for women in Texas. The clubhouse, built in 1949, is home to a statue that celebrates the spirit of music and creativity. The Genius of Music, a bronze sculpture by Italian-born artist Pompeo Coppini, stands proudly on a red granite pedestal outside the club’s entrance. The figure of a young boy, crowned with laurel, is seated with his legs crossed at the ankles as he plays his flute. His delicate fingers rest on the holes of the instrument, while his posture exudes both concentration and grace. The statue was erected in 1951 as a tribute to Anna Hertzberg, the founder of the Tuesday Musical Club, by her son, Harry Hertzberg. The inscription on the base reads:

“Genius of Music Memorial erected in memory of Anna Hertzberg, Founder of Tuesday Musical Club By her son Harry Hertzberg, January 1951.”

At the bottom edge of the pedestal, the names of the sculptors—Pompeo Coppini and Waldine Tauch—are also engraved. This sculpture celebrates the cultural and musical heritage of San Antonio, adding to the park’s rich artistic landscape.
