For nearly 60 years, the elephants “Cinnamon Kandy” and “Doodle Dandy” stood proudly at the entrance to the Hertzberg Circus Museum on Market Street. After the museum’s closure in 2001, the City of San Antonio was unable to retain the collection, and the elephants were transferred to the Witte Museum. In 2006, thanks to the generous support of Judy Bolner from Bolner’s Fiesta Spices, one of the elephants was restored to its former glory. Now, after 15 years, both elephants are once again on display in front of the Witte Museum, welcoming visitors and preserving a piece of San Antonio’s rich cultural history.
