Mill Race Bridge ceramic panels installed on bridge guardrails by Diana Kersey near Golf Course

If you’ve ever played a round of golf at the historic Brackenridge Park Golf Course, you’ve probably driven right past a hidden gem of public art. The Mill Race Bridge features ceramic panels embedded into the cement guardrails, created by San Antonio artist Diana Kersey in 2011. The designs, imbued with Art Deco style, include intricate patterns and concealed stylized golf balls, adding a playful element to the detailed compositions. At the center of each insert is a motif that directly relates to Brackenridge Park’s history, such as oak trees, the Clubhouse, and a portrait of G.W. Brackenridge. These ceramic panels not only honor the historic role of golf in the park but also transform a functional structure into a captivating work of art, blending the sport’s heritage with the natural beauty of the landscape.
