Brackenridge Park unveils new art map, virtual tour to showcase hidden gems in wilderness

Brackenridge Park isn’t just one of San Antonio’s favorite green spaces—it’s a place with stories stretching back hundreds of years.

And now, exploring that history just got easier.

The Brackenridge Park Conservancy has rolled out a brand-new guided art map, making it simple to track down the park’s hidden treasures—statues, sculptures, and pieces you may have walked past without even realizing.

Brackenridge Park is already a favorite spot for family fun and outdoor adventures, but now, it’s also a destination for art lovers! The park is offering a free walking tour that highlights hidden sculptures scattered throughout the grounds.

We spoke with Susan Budge, a talented sculptor whose work is featured in the park, and Lynn Osborne Bobbitt, Director of Development, who shared the story behind this unique project. Since 2015, sculptures have been quietly installed across Brackenridge, creating a trail of artistic discovery.

San Antonio’s Brackenridge Park Conservancy is putting the spotlight on public art with a new online map that tells the story of the beloved destination’s nearly 20 sculptures, statues, and trailhead markers.

The interactive map is a part of the conservatory’s newly revamped website. Each listing gives a history of the installations — many crafted decades ago — along with other interesting facts like the artist’s inspiration.

Historic San Antonio Park Highlights its Public Art Collection

The Brackenridge Park Conservancy in San Antonio has created a new Art Installations Guide map and virtual tour devoted to the public art and architectural landmarks sited within the 344-acre central city park.

The map is intended as a self-guided tour for those interested in exploring 19 artistic sites located throughout the 126-year-old public park’s many attractions, which include the San Antonio Zoo, Brackenridge Golf Course, the Japanese Tea Garden, Sunken Garden Theater, fishing in the San Antonio River, as well as numerous other features.
