Brackenridge Park Golf Course Turns 100

George Washington Brackenridge gave us the land where Alamo Heights and the University of the Incarnate Word sit plus a steady supply of water. Yet, nearly a century after his death, it is another gift for which he is most routinely remembered: Brackenridge Park. The park’s zoo and Japanese Tea Garden are landmarks, but the Brackenridge Park Golf Course has played a starring role in the development of the sport and the city itself. As the course, known as Old Brack, officially hits the century mark this month, it’s time to celebrate with 18 holes of nostalgia, progress and personality.
