Free tours to reveal San Antonio history

If you have never heard stories of the East Side cemeteries or seen the Blue Hole — the San Antonio River headwaters by the University of the Incarnate Word — local and national parks advocates will offer a rare opportunity this weekend to take free tours of those and more than a dozen other important sites in San Antonio.

People can register online for the tours Saturday and Sunday of 19 places listed on the “What’s Out There Weekend,” a program of The Cultural Landscape Foundation, a Washington-based nonprofit, in partnership with the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. It’s being offered as part of San Antonio’s 2018 Tricentennial celebration.

“It’s another way to put San Antonio on the map,” said Lynn Bobbitt, executive director of the Brackenridge Park Conservancy. “There are a lot of people who perhaps have driven by some of these amazing places and didn’t know what they were. This is a chance for them to find out.”
